Happy New Year peeps! Do you guys have any New Year goals for your home? New Year…New ME— the spirit of motivation of achieving goals is all over you (I see you smiling, girl). January is a great month to start a few home projects. You should take inventory of your space and set a few goals for your home. Maybe you want to get rid of your old sofa, and splurge on a nice tufted velvet one. Or maybe you want to keep the same bedroom furniture but update the bedding and accessories. Why not start NOW, so when you entertain in the spring/summer months you are not left with the thought of “I should have”.

Last year, I took a poll to ask my INSTAGRAM audience what did they want to see from me on the blog? Majority of my followers wanted to see more of styling videos. Therefore, below I will be showing you how to style a bed like a pro. This is a great way to update your bedroom for the new year without purchasing a new bed. You will be surprised, how making a bed properly with added layers can turn up the volume in your bedroom (no pun intended). People want a hotel boutique inspired, romantic oasis, cozy, bedroom bedding layered to the GODS type of bed. Speaking of romantic oasis, did you check out my post on a Romantic Bedroom Retreat? Anyway, below I have 9 steps on how to layer and style your bedding like a PRO, plus a video of the process.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: HOW TO MAKE A BED LIKE A PRO

STEP 1: FITTED SHEET

cover mattress and make sure you tuck all corners

STEP 2: FLAT SHEET

lay on top of fitted sheet with the trim at the top. Make sure it’s laid out evenly, smooth it out, and it needs to be wrinkle free (designer tip: please iron your sheets or place in dryer for reduced/or wrinkle free results)

STEP 3: TUCK SHEET

be sure that the flat sheet is tucked inside the bed frame or the mattress (whichever is more convenient)

STEP 4: LAYER PLUSH BLANKET/OR QUILT

key element to the overall coziness of the bed. Place on top of the flat sheet, but be sure to place blanket a little lower than the top of the flat sheet. You want to leave room for when you fold the sheet over the blanket

STEP 5: APPLY HOSPITAL CORNER

apply this technique to the two corners at the bottom of the bed. Hold the corner in place, fold the top drape over, and tuck under

STEP 6: FOLD SHEET OVER BLANKET (slightly)

in step 4, you placed the blanket a little lower than the top flat sheet. Now— fold top sheet over blanket

STEP 7: APPLY DUVET COVER & FOLD

lay on bed, so all sides are equal. Start at top and pull cover all the way down to the bottom, then fold over so you can see the decorative side of the duvet cover.

STEP 8: ADD DECORATIVE PILLOWS

for this specific bed, I used this formula—two standard pillows, stand two shams on top of the standard pillows, added two solid velvet 20(inch) pillows, and 3 (18inch) pattern pillows in front

STEP 9: ADD THROW

for more exaggerated texture and warmth- add a throw
